Saskatchewan RCMP is modifying the areas served by Prince Albert RCMP, Melfort RCMP and Wakaw RCMP starting May 1, 2021.

To enhance police service delivery, the area served by Melfort RCMP will now include the communities of Birch Hills, Crystal Springs, Weldon and their surrounding areas.

"This modification will result in shorter response times to many residences and businesses," says Superintendent Ted Munro, Saskatchewan RCMP North District Commander. "Our police officers won't have to drive through the City of Prince Albert anymore when responding to calls for service to those communities, which can save as much as ten minutes. Improving our response times is a priority for us and is the reason behind this modification."

Community leaders were consulted and the province approved the changes in service areas.

The areas currently served by Prince Albert RCMP that will be served starting May 1, 2021, by Melfort RCMP are: Birch Hills, Brancepeth, Crystal Springs, Dixon Lake, Hagen, Jumping Lake, Struthers Lake, Waitville, Weldon, Wolverine Lake as well as portions of Highway 3, 20, 25, 320, 682, 778 and 798.

The areas currently served by Wakaw RCMP that will be served starting May 1, 2021, by Melfort RCMP are: Meskanaw as well as a portion of Highway 41.

From now on, residents of these areas will have to contact Melfort RCMP to request police services.
