News release

The New Brunswick RCMP rescued five people from an early morning house fire in Boudreau Ouest, N.B.

On July 23, 2021, shortly after 3 a.m., Cst. William Hachey and a second police officer were responding to an unrelated call for service in the area when they noticed a vehicle on fire outside a home on Route 133.

Police attempted to alert the occupants of the home from outside. When they received no response, they proceeded to gain entry to the house and woke up the people inside. Three adults, including one with a physical disability, and two children, were safely assisted out of the house.

"The quick actions of our police officers saved many lives today," says Cpl. Eric Rouselle with the Shediac RCMP. "All occupants of the home were unaware of the fire and were able to escape safely without injury".

The fire spread to the home shortly after and destroyed the home. Members of the Shediac, Cap-Pelé and the Beaubassin-Est fire departments attended the scene and were able to extinguish the fire.

The provincial Fire Marshall's office also attended the scene and is assisting with the investigation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
