Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and Labrador

News release

An underage all-terrain vehicle (ATV) operator was taken for medical treatment after the side-by-side he was operating flipped over in Carbonear on November 20, 2021.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Harbour Grace RCMP received the report of the collision on Circular Road. Police attended the scene where a side-by-side ATV, carrying two underage occupants, had flipped over while the underage operator was doing donuts. Both occupants were taken to Carbonear General Hospital. The operator was treated for minor injuries and the passenger was uninjured.

The ATV was seized and impounded. Tickets under the Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Act are expected to be issued to the operator for a number of violations. A parent has been ticketed for allowing the underage operation of the ATV.

The investigation is continuing.

RCMP NL reminds parents of the requirement of appropriate supervision for youth who are of the age to operate an ATV while supervised. Currently, youth ages 14-15 are permitted, while supervised by an adult, to operate an ATV that does not exceed 90 ccs.
