News release

A 27-year-old man from Alberton, P.E.I., was sentenced to over 5 months in jail for multiple criminal offences, including driving while prohibited.

On April 9, 2022, a 27-year-old Alberton man known to police was observed by a member of the Prince District RCMP to be driving while prohibited in the Wellington Centre area. On April 14, at approximately 10 a.m., police located the man walking with another individual in Summerside. When police approached, he fled on foot, and was shortly apprehended and arrested. When they searched the man, police seized a prohibited weapon. A 30-year-old Kinkora man was also arrested at the scene on unrelated matters.

Brandon Allan Butler was remanded into custody the same day. He appeared in Summerside Provincial Court on April 20 and plead guilty to driving while prohibited as well as three counts of theft under $5,000 in connection with an unrelated matter. He was sentenced the same day to over 5 months in jail and given a further three-year driving prohibition.

"This investigation was a joint effort between members from the East and West Prince RCMP as well as the Prince District JFO Drug Unit," says Cpl Andy Cook with the Prince District RCMP. "Prince District RCMP will continue to focus on aggressive drivers and those who commit criminal driving offences such as flight from police, prohibited driving, impaired driving and dangerous driving."
