Alberta Traffic Unit Redcliff seize guns during traffic stop

On May 11, 2022, Books RCMP received a complaint of an impaired driver on Highway 1 near Brooks. Alberta Traffic Unit Redcliff officers located the vehicle near Bassano, Alta. and initiated a traffic stop. Upon approach, the driver provided a false name and was arrested.

A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest led to the discovery of the following:

  • .22 sawed off rifle loaded with a full magazine and a chambered round
  • .22 ammunition
  • 12-gauge sawed off shotgun loaded with a full magazine and a chambered round
  • 12-gauge ammunition
  • Stun gun
  • Large hunting knife
  • Various types of drug paraphernalia

A 27-year-old individual of Cypress County, Alta. has been charged with the following:

  • Weapons offences (x9)
  • Failing to comply with release conditions (x2)
  • Obstruction
  • Offences under the Traffic Safety Act

The 27-year-old individual has been remanded into custody and will appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on May 13, 2022.

A 30-year-old individual of Edmonton has been charged with the following:

  • Weapons offences (x9)

The 30-year-old individual has been released on conditions and will be appear in Brooks Provincial Court on June 15, 2022.
