Alert Ready for Greater Fredericton area concluded, two arrested; police investigation into shooting continuing

Two individuals have been arrested following a shooting incident and an Alert Ready in the Hanwell, N.B. area.

On December 2, 2022, at approximately 4:30 a.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP and Fredericton Police Force responded to a report of shots fired on Leafwood Drive in the Hanwell Trailer Park. Police responded to the scene and determined it to be a credible report. Two individuals were taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The Fredericton Police Force arrested one individual at the scene. Other individuals that were believed to be involved in the incident fled the scene in a vehicle.

An Alert Ready message was issued for the Fredericton and Oromocto areas at 10:46 a.m.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. the same day, police located the suspect vehicle in the Longs Creek area, off of Highway 2. A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Individuals in the area can resume their daily activities, but police remain in the Longs Creek and Hanwell areas to continue their investigation. An updated Alert Ready message was issued at 12:30 p.m.

"The Alert Ready has concluded, and residents can return to their regular activities," says Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP. "This is still very much an active investigation. If you have any information that could assist investigators, please contact police right away."

"We want to thank the public for their cooperation during this incident," says Cpl. Ouellette. "We especially appreciate their assistance in sharing our information as quickly as possible, and helping to keep 911 lines clear for emergencies and information related to the incident."
