Armed and barricaded man arrested by police

One person was safely arrested by police after Cambridge Bay RCMP received a report involving an armed and barricaded male.

On March 20, around 12:15 p.m., Cambridge Bay RCMP responded to a call for a situation in which a male had made threats to the residents inside a home with a firearm. The two residents of the home were able to exit safely. Frontline members responded attempting to de-escalate the situation, and encourage the male to exit the home. As the situation unfolded and the male refused to exit, the Division Critical Incident Program was activated and additional resources including the Containment Team, Crisis Negotiators, and the Alberta Emergency Response (ERT) team were all activated.

One male, 51 years old, was taken into custody safely and without issue at 05:34 a.m. on March 21, 2022.

No members of the public or police were injured during this incident.

Frank Bolt has been charged with the following offences and will appear in court in Kugluktuk on May 9, 2022.

-Fail to comply with release order
-Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
-Pointing a firearm (two counts)
-Careless use of a firearm
-Possession of a firearm for dangerous purpose
-Assault
