Baie Verte RCMP searches for missing man Willis Penney

Baie Verte RCMP is searching for missing man Willis Penney, a 79-year-old resident of Middle Arm, who was last seen on Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m. last night, police received the report. Penney was last seen yesterday at approximately 2:00 p.m. departing his Middle Arm residence on his all-terrain vehicle (ATV). He was believed to be heading into the woods to check on a hunting trap. His ATV was located abandoned on a trail in a wooded area by local residents who also searched the surrounding area. Penney was not located.

Penney, who was wearing camouflage clothing, is considered to be an avid outdoorsman.

Search efforts are continuing today with a ground search being conducted by Deer Lake Ground Search and Rescue and RCMP Police Dogs Services, as well as assistance from local residents. An aerial search is being conducted by Government Air Services.

The investigation is continuing.
