News release

Twenty-five-year-old Jesse Lewis of Avondale was arrested by Bay Roberts RCMP on September 19, 2022, in relation to a number of criminal offences.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, police received a phone call from Lewis who self-disclosed that he was driving while impaired and challenged officers to come find him.

Shortly after this call, police received two separate reports of vehicle thefts by Lewis from residential properties in Georgetown and Cupids.

RCMP officers from Bay Roberts, Harbour Grace and Whitbourne were engaged in the search for Lewis. At approximately 5:00 a.m. while officers were on patrol, police received a report from a resident of Conception Harbour who advised that Lewis attended his residence and made threats while holding an edged weapon.

At approximately 5:20 a.m., Lewis was located in Conception Harbour operating a stolen vehicle and showed signs of impairment. He was taken into custody for a number of criminal offences and was transported to Carbonear General Hospital where a blood sample was obtained. Officers await the results of the blood sample to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate.

Lewis was on parole for convictions of armed robbery, dangerous operation, flight from police, assaulting a police officer, assault with a weapon and theft of a motor vehicle. He attended court on Monday where his parole was revoked. He is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle – two counts
  • Uttering threats – two counts
  • Assault with a weapon

He was remanded into custody and will attend court on September 28, 2022.

The investigation is continuing with further charges anticipated.
