Bay Roberts RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash early this morning and arrested the driver for impaired operation.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., police received the report of the crash that occurred on the Main Road in Makinsons. Officers attended the scene and observed an abandoned car on its roof on the side of the roadway. Police searched the area and located the described driver and a passenger a short distance away, walking away from the scene. Both sustained non-life threatening injuries and refused medical treatment. The driver, a 29-year-old man, showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the detachment and provided breath samples that were above the legal limit.

The man was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired operation. His licence was suspended and the car was seized and impounded.

The investigation is continuing with further charges possible.
