Bay St. George RCMP seized cash, drugs and drug paraphernalia during the investigation of a single vehicle crash that happened on Route 490 near Stephenville on April 5, 2022.

A 19-year-old Stephenville Crossing man was arrested for drug-impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash that happened on Route 490 near Stephenville on April 5, 2022. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle.

Shortly before 9:00 a.m., police responded to the report of the crash and attended the scene. A Honda Civic went off the road and the driver, who tested positive for THC on roadside drug screening equipment, was arrested for impaired driving. Inside the vehicle, a quantity of unstamped contraband cannabis, 11 grams of shatter (a potent synthetic form of cannabis), 47 strips of suboxone, 40 tablets of oxycodone and 10 tablets of suspected codeine, as well as drug paraphernalia and items consistent with drug trafficking, were located and seized.

The driver was transported to the detachment and completed a drug influence evaluation. Officers await the results of the testing to determine if a charge of drug impaired driving is appropriate.

The man was released from custody and drug charges are pending. His driver's licence was suspended and his car was seized and impounded.

The investigation is continuing.
