Grande Prairie RCMP arrest male, locate stolen vehicle and seize firearm

On Oct. 14, 2022, at approximately 1 a.m., officers with Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit located a suspicious vehicle in the Copperwood neighbourhood. A traffic stop was attempted; however, the vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was located shortly after in the area of 102 Street and 128 Ave with two males walking away from it. Upon seeing police, the males fled on foot. One male was apprehended after a short foot chase. A loaded rifle was found in close proximity to the male at the time of arrest.

The truck that fled from police was determined to have been stolen from Spirit River on Oct. 10, 2022.

An 18-year-old individual, a resident of Grande Prairie, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm while prohibited

Following a judicial interim release hearing, the individual was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Oct. 17, 2022

The second male was not located and is described as follows:

  • Approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall
  • Slender build
  • Was wearing a black hoody and carrying a backpack
