Harbour Grace RCMP charges two women following ruckus at TC Square, seeks further witnesses

Two women remain in custody and will appear in court today to face multiple Criminal Code charges following their arrest at the Trinity Conception (TC) Square mall in Carbonear yesterday, March 16.

Harbour Grace RCMP was dispatched to the mall at approximately 2:20 p.m. to respond to a report of shoplifting that had just occurred at one of the retailers in the mall. The suspect was identified as being under a court ordered condition to stay away from the store.

While en route to TC Square, officers received a separate report that two women had just assaulted an employee at a kiosk and were running through the mall, damaging other stores and threatening other employees and patrons.

Police arrived on scene and arrested 32-year-old Alyshia George of Old Shop and 50-year-old Catherine Thorne of Victoria without further incident.

George is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Criminal Code (CC) Section 354-1-a, six charges
  • Failure to Appear, CC 145-2

Thorne, who has a number of outstanding matters awaiting disposition before the courts and is subject to multiple undertakings, is facing the following additional charges:

  • Assault, CC Section 266-b, two charges
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, CC Section 264.1-1-a, two charges
  • Uttering Threats to Damage or Destroy Property, CC Section 264.1-1-b
  • Causing a Disturbance, CC Section 175-1-a 2, two charges
  • Failure to Comply with a Probation Order, CC Section 733.1-1-b
