News release

Four St. John's men, between the ages of 44 and 57 years of age, were arrested by Harbour Grace RCMP yesterday, May 31, following a report of theft from Walmart in Carbonear.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., police received the report of the theft indicating suspects left the store without paying for various merchandise valued at $700-800 and departed in a blue Jeep.

The vehicle was located minutes later by RCMP on the Veterans Memorial Highway heading towards the Trans-Canada Highway. The four occupants of the vehicle were arrested, the vehicle was searched and the stolen property was recovered. In addition, stolen merchandise from another business was located inside the vehicle. Police contacted the business owner, who was not yet aware that a theft had occurred. The stolen property will be returned to its rightful owners.

The men were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of theft under $5000.00 and possession of property obtained by crime. One man is also facing a charge of possession of a controlled drug.

RCMP NL continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law, and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
