Innisfail RCMP arrest male after Emergency Response Team deployment – Update #2

April 28, 2022
Innisfail, Alberta

News release

On April 27, 2022, at approximately 8 p.m., Innisfail RCMP received a complaint of a male in distress who had barricaded himself in his garage and was threatening to shoot police with a crossbow.

RCMP contained the house and called for assistance from the Southern Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Crisis Response Team (RPACT). RCMP and RPACT negotiated with the male for several hours.

At one point, the male deployed a can of bear spray on himself and was in medical distress, so ERT made a forcible entry to the garage. The male was safely arrested and transported to the hospital.

Charges are not being pursued, and no further updates are anticipated.
