On January 9, 2022, Iqaluit RCMP responded to a report of an assault. Upon entering the residence, a male was seen sitting on the couch with what appeared to be a stab wound to his chest. The male was taken to the hospital, he is expected to make a full recovery. A second victim was also taken to the hospital by police, where her injuries were treated.
Markoosie Peter, 26, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
S. 268 - Aggravated Assault
S. 266 - Assault
Peter's next court appearance is scheduled for February 21, 2022.
