Man charged in connection with bank robberies

A 35-year-old man from Moncton, N.B. has been charged in connection with two bank robberies in the community.

On May 30, 2022 at approximately 12:10 p.m., a man entered the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) on Mountain Road demanded money from a teller, and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash before police arrived. Nobody was injured during the incident.

On June 6 at approximately 12:30 p.m., a man armed with a knife entered the Bank of Montreal (BMO) on Main Street. He demanded money from a teller, but was unsuccessful and fled the scene before police arrived.

Later the same day, the Codiac Regional RCMP arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the bank robbery on May 30 at RBC. Through the investigation, police confirmed that the same individual was also involved in the attempted robbery at BMO on June 6.

On June 7, David Jeremy Byrd, originally from Richmond, B.C., but living in Moncton, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with two counts of robbery. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on June 8.

The investigation is ongoing.
