Stolen unmarked police vehicle

Officers from the Winnipeg Police Service located the stolen unmarked police vehicle abandoned on Gallagher Avenue, in Winnipeg.

No arrests at this time but the investigation is ongoing.

RCMP and WPS thank the public and media for their assistance.

On September 20, 2022, at approximately 11:05 am, Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a stolen unmarked RCMP police vehicle, from a business on Weston Avenue, in Winnipeg.

An unmarked RCMP SUV was at the business for regular maintenance work when it was stolen.

At approximately 10:55 am, a suspect entered the business, took the keys and stole the vehicle. A second suspect associated to this male was also in the area and police are looking to identify and speak with him.

The first suspect is a male with short dark hair wearing grey pants, navy blue jacket with a hood and blue/white runners.

The second suspect is a male with dark hair, wearing a red and black plaid jacket, black sweatpants, red shoes and a dark colored baseball cap.

The stolen unmarked police vehicle is a 2017 black Ford Explorer with Manitoba licence plate HYA 548.
It is equipped with flashing red and blue lights in the front and rear. There were no police uniforms, firearms, protective vests, nor any other weapons within the vehicle.

This theft appears to be one of opportunity. There has been no information to date suggesting that the suspects stole the vehicle in order to impersonate a police officer, however, we do want to warn the public to be on the lookout for this specific unmarked Ford Explorer. If you see it please call 911.

If you have concerns about the legitimacy of a traffic stop and believe someone is impersonating a police officer, call 911.

Anyone with information on these suspects or the stolen police vehicle, are asked to call the Winnipeg Police Service's Property Crimes Unit at 204-986-2426.
