Marystown RCMP looks to identify individual in distress following 911 hang-up

Following the hang-up of a brief 911 call received last night from an individual who appeared to be in distress, Marystown RCMP is seeking assistance from the public in identifying the person to ensure their safety.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. last night, a 911 call was received from an individual in a state of panic who stated that they were being chased. The person identified that they were currently in Marystown. The line then disconnected and no other details were provided. The number was untraceable and no other calls were received.

Burin Peninsula RCMP conducted immense patrols of Marystown and made numerous inquiries around town. The individual was not located.

A recording of the 911 clip is attached. The investigation is continuing.

    911 Operator: 911. What is the nature of your emergency?

    Caller: (Inaudible.) There's someone's chasing me.

    911 Operator: Pardon?

    Caller: There's someone chasing me.

    911 Operator: There's someone chasing you? Where are you calling from? What town are you in?

    Caller: (Inaudible.)

    911 Operator: Where? You're where?

    Caller: Marystown.

    911 Operator: Marystown. What's your phone number there please?

    Caller: Don't have one.

    911 Operator: Alright. Stay on the line with me. I'll get you put through to the police. They'll wanna know where you are in Marystown. Just a second there now. Where are you located right now?

    (Ringing tone.)

    RCMP: RCMP. Where's your emergency?

    911 Operator: Go ahead there. Ah. They've gone and hung up there. Ah.
