The Indigenous Pre-Cadet Training Program (IPTP) offers 30 Indigenous young adults from across Canada, between the ages of 19 and 29, the opportunity to take part in a three-week modified training at the RCMP Training Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan. Numerous participants have gone on to work for or become RCMP officers since the program's launch in 1994.

Amy MacFarlane, a Mi'kmaq woman from Stanley, New Brunswick, attended the IPTP 2022 session and had an incredible experience.

"During the Indigenous Pre-Cadet Program, I learned the importance of working together as a troop, especially during the physical training sessions," says Amy. "I made many meaningful memories with like-minded people, and returning home after our three weeks was bittersweet."

Amy's time at Depot supported her in realising her goal to work with the RCMP. She was recently hired as an Administrative Assistant for the Specialized Policing Services Unit with the New Brunswick RCMP to further explore the public service aspect of policing.
