One person arrested after repeated shoplifting files

One person was arrested on Friday, March 25, 2022, related to three theft files that took place in Whitehorse, YT. After appearing in court the following day, he was released on conditions then arrested again on March 28, 2022, for another theft.

On March 25, Whitehorse RCMP received a call from a business about a shoplifter. Thanks to a detailed description from the caller, police were able to attend and locate the suspect quickly. He was arrested and found to be in possession of the items allegedly taken from the store. Upon further investigation, police found that he had been involved in other files related to shoplifting and he was held for court the following day. The same man was arrested again on March 28, also for theft from a local business.

Raymond Blake, age 46 of Whitehorse, is facing the following charges stemming from four different police files:

  • Theft (four counts), section 334(b), Criminal Code
  • Failure to comply with probation order (two counts), section 733.1(1) Criminal Code
  • Utter threats (one count), section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code
  • Assault (one count), section 266 Criminal Code

"No one should put their safety at risk unnecessarily on the job," says Sgt. Jolene Nason, Operations NCO at Whitehorse RCMP Detachment. "Police appreciate when staff who witness an offence can provide good descriptions of a suspect, including clothing, and of the items taken. Please don't do anything dangerous to identify a suspect or to prevent or intervene during a property offence like shoplifting."

Mr. Blake is not currently in custody but has an upcoming court date scheduled for April 6, 2022.
