Poplar River RCMP investigate shots fired

Firearm seized

On April 25, 2022, at approximately 11:35 pm, RCMP officers in Poplar River heard shots fired in the community. Patrols were made in the area, but were negative.

During the next couple of days, officers received information on the incident and identified a victim. It was determined that on April 25, a female was assaulted by a male at a residence in the community. The female was preparing to leave in a vehicle with her two small children, when the male shot a firearm. No one was struck.

On April 28, Poplar River RCMP, along with the Emergency Response Team, executed a warrant at the suspect's residence in the community. The male was arrested without incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

A 46-year-old male has been charged with:

Assault With a Weapon
Discharge Firearm While Being Reckless x3
Careless Use of a Firearm
Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm when Knowing Possession is Unauthorized
Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence
Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

He was remanded into custody.

Poplar River RCMP continue to investigate.
