Portage la Prairie RCMP respond to assault

On March 9, 2022, at approximately 11:00 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to an assault at the Provincial Court Office on Tupper Street North in Portage la Prairie.

A 34-year-old male was being searched as he entered Provincial Court and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. When Sheriffs placed the male under arrest, he became combative and assaulted them. A 13-year-old female who was with the male intervened and also assaulted the sheriffs during the arrest. The sheriffs were able to gain control and arrest both suspects.

RCMP attended and took both suspects into custody.

A 34-year-old male from Portage la Prairie has been charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer x2 and Resisting Arrest x 2. He was remanded into custody.

A 13-year-old female from Portage la Prairie is facing charges of Assaulting a Peace Officer x3 and Resisting Arrest. She was released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 30, 2022.

The victims, a 30-year-old male and a 27-year-old male, received minor physical injuries, and were treated and released.

Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.
