Update : Armed robbery suspect arrested

The Queens District RCMP is asking for the public's assistance to help locate an individual involved in an armed robbery at a business in Hunter River, PEI.

On March 3, 2022, at approximately 2 a.m., a man entered the Irving on Route 2, in Hunter River, armed with a hammer. He demanded money from an employee, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. He fled the scene before police arrived. Nobody was injured during the incident.

The man has since been identified as Matthew Uytendaele, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. The RCMP is releasing a photo of Uytendaele in an effort to help locate him.

Matthew Uytendaele is described as being approximately five feet eleven inches (180 centimeters) tall, and weighing approximately 200 pounds (90 kilograms). At the time of the theft, he was wearing a green camouflage hooded sweatshirt with a white letter "U" written the front left chest area, and a large printed image on the back. He was also wearing black jogging pants. Matthew Uytendaele has brown hair and green eyes, and has several tattoos on his face and hands, including one above his right eyebrow that reads "Blessed".

Anyone with information on Matthew Uytendaele's whereabouts, or who has information about the theft is asked to call the Queens District RCMP at 902-368-9300. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
