RCMP conducts searches in Clarke’s Beach and Brigus; two men charged with drugs and firearms offences

RCMP NL continues its work to disrupt drug trafficking networks and stop the flow of illicit drugs into communities. Twenty-seven-year-old Christian Woodford of Clarke's Beach and 48-year-old Steven Breaker of Brigus were arrested this week and remain in custody following search warrants that were executed at their homes by the RCMP East District General Investigation Section (GIS). Both men are charged with a number of weapons and drug offences.

On Monday evening, April 4, RCMP officers from Holyrood, Ferryland, Bay Roberts, Traffic Services East, the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and East District GIS, executed a planned traffic stop on Glam Road in Clarke's Beach where Woodford was taken into custody without incident. The vehicle was seized and transported via tow truck to Bay Roberts Detachment where a search warrant was executed. A quantity of unstamped cannabis and more than $5000.00 cash was located and seized from inside the vehicle. At the same time, officers executed a search warrant at Woodford's Clarke's Beach residence. A quantity of oxycodone pills, unstamped contraband cannabis and cannabis products, ammunition, a quantity of cocaine, other prescription medications, more than $15,000.00 in cash and various proceeds of crime items were located and seized.

Christian Woodford, who remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing today, is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking oxycodone– Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of unstamped cannabis for the purpose of selling – Federal Cannabis Act
  • Four counts of failing to comply with a release order – Criminal Code of Canada

On Tuesday evening, April 5, RCMP officers from Holyrood, Ferryland, Bay Roberts, East District GIS and Traffic Services East executed a search warrant on the residence of Steven Breaker in Brigus. As a result of this search, police seized more than a kilogram of cocaine, 432 grams of unstamped contraband cannabis, a firearm and ammunition. Breaker, who was located inside the home, was arrested without incident.

Breaker is set to appear in court today and is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose – Criminal Code of Canada
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm – Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized – Criminal Code of Canada
  • Unsafe Storage of a firearm – Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of unstamped cannabis for the purpose of selling – Federal Cannabis Act

The investigation is continuing.
