RCMP investigates fatal house fire

Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating a fatal house fire that occurred on Melbourne Rd. in Pinkneys Point.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on March 17, 2022, Yarmouth Rural RCMP and fire services responded to a house fire on Melbourne Rd. in Pinkneys Point. When RCMP officers arrived at the scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Officers located two residents of the home, a 20-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, at another residence. The two are not believed to have been in the home when the fire started. A third resident was unaccounted for.

After the fire was extinguished, human remains were located inside the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing and is being lead by the Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit, with assistance from the Office of the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal, the Medical Examiner's Office and the Forensic Identification Section of the RCMP. Information and evidence are being gathered as the investigation continues.
