RCMP seeking possible victims of fraud

Moncton, New Brunswick

News release

The Codiac Regional RCMP is seeking additional victims in connection with a fraud investigation involving past customers of two automotive dealerships owned by Rallye Motors, in Moncton, N.B.

In June 2022, a woman was arrested in Moncton for an unrelated matter and was found to have in her possession documents with personal and financial information belonging to a number of individuals. A police investigation determined that the financial documents originated from Rallye Motors Hyundai and Rallye Motors Mitsubishi dealerships, in Moncton. Police have also determined that individuals not associated with Rallye Motors have used these documents to fraudulently apply for various types of financing such as car loans and credit cards in other people's names.

Police executed four search warrants in connection with the investigation between July and September in the Greater Moncton area. A significant number of documents were seized during the searches. A 41-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Moncton, were arrested as part of the investigation. They were released and are scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on January 24, 2023.

"We are asking anyone who purchased a new or used vehicle from Rallye Motors Hyundai or Rallye Motors Mitsubishi between 2012 and 2017 to check their credit history for any irregularities," says Sgt. Mathieu Roy, of the Codiac Regional RCMP. "We are working with the owners of the business to identify anyone who might have been affected."

The General Investigations Section of the Codiac Regional RCMP has been contacting individuals identified in the documents that were seized by police. A number of people have confirmed financial irregularities that appear to be connected with the investigation.

If you were a customer of Rallye Motors Hyundai or Rallye Motors Mitsubishi dealerships during the specified time period and suspect you may have been a victim of fraud, or if you have information that may assist the investigation, please contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.

The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada offers information on how to obtain a credit report from a Canadian credit bureau.

The investigation is ongoing.
