RCMP warning businesses in Greater Moncton area of credit card fraud

Dieppe, Moncton and Riverview, New Brunswick

News release

The Codiac Regional RCMP is warning businesses in the Greater Moncton area of credit card fraud following two incidents that occurred between November and December, 2021.

In both instances, different flooring businesses were contacted over the phone by an individual who placed a large order using several credit cards. The merchandise was then picked up by a third party delivery service and transported to Quebec onto different unidentified vehicles. Following the delivery of the merchandise, the business owners were advised that the credit cards used to purchase the goods were stolen, causing significant losses to the business.

The RCMP would like to remind business owners to exercise caution when dealing with customers over the phone. To learn more about how you can protect yourself from scams and fraud, including businesses, visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

"We are continuing to investigate both incidents to determine if they are connected and to find those responsible," says Cpl. Anne-Marie Michel-Poitras with the Codiac Regional RCMP. "We are also asking any business owners who have fallen victim to a similar fraud to contact their local police. Your information could help further the investigation."

Anyone with information that could help further the investigation is asked to contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
