Selkirk RCMP respond to boat incident

On October 10, 2022, at approximately 8:30 am, Selkirk RCMP responded to a report that someone had fallen from a boat on Netley Creek, in the RM of St. Andrews.

Initial investigation has determined that two adults were on a boat on Netley Creek, when the driver took evasive action to avoid an obstacle in the water and the passenger was thrown from the boat and subsequently hit by the propeller. The driver immediately entered the water and attempted to pull the other male to safety.

Bystanders nearby called 911 and assisted with getting both males out of the water.

A 20-year-old male from Winnipeg was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver, a 21-year-old male from Winnipeg, was not injured.

Both were wearing floatation devices at the time of the incident.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors.

Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate.
