Woman arrested in connection with rash of thefts in Acadian Peninsula

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a rash of thefts in the Acadian Peninsula and Chaleur Region, in New Brunswick.

Between February 23, and June 30, 2022, the RCMP received 22 reports of thefts, including a number of thefts of fuel from local gas stations, across the Acadian Peninsula and in the Chaleur Region.

On July 5, 2022, The Bathurst Police Force arrested a 26-year-old woman from Val-Doucet, N.B., in connection with the investigation into the rash of thefts. On July 6, the woman appeared in Bathurst Provincial Court, and was later released on conditions. She is scheduled to return to court on August 8.

This investigation is a joint operation involving the Northeast District RCMP Community Crime Reduction Unit, Chaleur Region RCMP, Bathurst Police Force, and BNPP Police Force.

"Fuel thefts have a serious impact on local businesses. We take reports of theft seriously, and will always conduct a thorough investigation," said Sgt. Pierre Chiasson with the Northeast District RCMP Community Crime Reduction Unit. "We encourage business owners to take any steps possible to protect themselves and deter these types of thefts."

The investigation is ongoing.
