41-year-old man arrested in connection with copper wire theft

A 41-year-old man from Oromocto, N.B., has been arrested in connection with a copper wire theft in Oromocto, N.B.

On March 28, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious person near a power pole. When police arrived, they found a number of cut wires and fresh tracks in the snow. The individual, a 41-year-old man from Oromocto, was located and arrested a short time later with the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services.

On March 29, Stuart McCann appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court and was charged with:

  • Theft
  • Mischief
  • Breach of a probation order
  • Breach of a release order

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on April 27 at 9:30 a.m., for a bail hearing.

There have been a number of copper wire thefts in the Fredericton and Oromocto areas recently causing losses to businesses, homes and government departments. Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity near an electrical substation or power poles is asked to contact their local police department.
