On Dec. 5, 2023, Fort Vermilion RCMP were dispatched to the medical center in John D'or Prairie, where a male had been assaulted and dropped off. This male later succumbed to his injuries. After an initial investigation, RCMP are treating his death as a homicide. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been deployed and has taken carriage of the investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled at the Edmonton Medical Examiner's office.
The investigation is ongoing, and there is no information to suggest a risk to the public at this time.
