RCMP continue to investigate the Sept. 15, 2021, homicide of Edmonton resident Vanessa Ann Silva. In November 2022 RCMP arrested and charged one individual. As the result of continued investigation, on Feb. 7, 2023, RCMP issued an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Bith Gattang Chuol. Chuol has been charged with:

  • First-degree murder
  • Kidnapping
  • Breaking and entering
  • Extortion

RCMP are asking for public assistance in locating Bith Chuol who has ties to Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Manitoba.

Chuol is described as:

  • Dark complexion
  • 6 feet 4 inches tall
  • 140 pounds
  • Black hair
  • Brown eyes

Bith Chuol is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, Do Not Approach, please call 911 or your local police agency.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit charge man in relation to September 2021 homicide

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes unit has laid a charge of first-degree murder in relation to the homicide of an Edmonton woman in September 2021.

On Sept. 15, 2021, Strathcona County RCMP and Fire Services responded to a vehicle fire near Township Road 530 and Range Road 221 in Strathcona County. Upon extinguishing the fire, human remains were located in the vehicle. An autopsy was conducted on Sept. 17, 2021, and the victim was identified as Vanessa Silva, age 29, of Edmonton.

Following an extensive investigation, a 25-year-old individual, from Edmonton, was identified as a suspect. On May 6, 2022, members of the RCMP K-Division Major Crimes unit arrested the individual for the murder. The individual has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. A judicial interim release hearing was held, and the individual has been remanded into custody with a first appearance date of May 11, 2022, in Edmonton.
