On Jan. 26, 2023, while searching for a different offender, officers from the RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit came upon a stolen vehicle. Utilizing covert vehicles RCMP Air and Dog Services, and officers from Parkland RCMP detachment and Crime Reduction Unit, officers were able to successfully deploy a spike belt. The suspect was not successful in attempting to drive with flat tires and became stuck in the ditch. After continued investigation, RCMP located a loaded sawed off shot gun, a loaded SKS rifle, bear spar and a machete in the vehicle. A 43-year-old individual, a resident of Edmonton, has been charged with the following:
- Flight from police
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Fraudulent concealment
- Possession of stolen property over $5000
- Possession of a weapon contrary to order (x3)
- Weapons offences (x6)
The individual was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody with his next court date set for Feb. 1, 2023, at Stony Plain provincial court.
