Police respond to attempted break and enter and attempted armed robbery in Spaniard’s Bay, man arrested

Twenty-two-year-old Ryan Sheppard was arrested this weekend and is charged with a number of criminal offences following an attempted break and enter and an attempted armed robbery in the Spaniard's Bay area.

Harbour Grace RCMP received reports of two separate incidents on Sunday, January 21, each involving a lone male suspect. A man unsuccessfully attempted to break into the Seaside Lounge on the Conception Bay Highway on Sunday morning. Later that day, officers received a report of an attempted armed robbery with a weapon at the Baccalieu Trail Pharmacy in Spaniard's Bay, also involving a lone male suspect.

Following the police response and investigation into the Baccalieu Trail Pharmacy, officers determined the identity of the suspect as Ryan Sheppard and further determined that he was responsible for both incidents.

Sheppard was located at a residence a short time later, was arrested and was transported to the detachment. He is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Armed robbery
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Break and enter

He attended court via teleconference this past weekend, was remanded into custody and appeared in court on Monday. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date.
