RCMP officers respond to four off-road vehicle collisions in ten hours

On Saturday, the Nova Scotia RCMP responded to four off-road vehicle collisions in approximately ten hours. The incidents occurred in Lunenburg, Richmond, Inverness and Pictou counties.

On March 4, at approximately 12:40 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a youth who had been injured while on an ATV near Pine Grove. The youth suffered an injury to his leg and required medical attention. RCMP officers located the youth and transported him out of the woods. He was then turned over to EHS for medical care.

At approximately 2:35 p.m., Richmond County District RCMP responded to a report of a woman who had had been injured while on an ATV ride near Louisdale. The woman had fallen off the ATV after it struck a snowbank, and was then struck by the ATV itself. The woman was transported to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

At approximately 10:05 p.m., Inverness County District RCMP responded to a report of two men injured while on a snowmobile near Whycocomagh. The men suffered minor injuries; one required treatment by paramedics.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., Pictou County District RCMP responded to a report of a snowmobile colliding with a tree near Loganville. The snowmobile driver was uninjured and displaying signs of impairment. The woman was arrested and provided breath samples nearly three times the legal limit. She was later released from custody and will be facing Impaired Operation related charges. She'll appear in court at a later date.

The Nova Scotia RCMP encourages off-highway vehicle operators to keep safety top-of-mind while enjoying the outdoors. Ride sober. Drive at an appropriate speed and for the conditions. Pay attention. And wear safety gear, including a proper helmet.
