La Ronge General Investigation Section: two charged after attempted murder, weapons and drugs seizure

On March 9, 2023, La Ronge RCMP's General Investigation Section (GIS) received a report of a serious assault and robbery of an adult female, which occurred in June 2022.

La Ronge GIS immediately began investigation with the assistance of La Ronge RCMP, Stanley Mission RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP's La Ronge Crime Reduction Team. On March 14, 2023, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Stanley Mission as part of their ongoing investigation into the assault and robbery.

Officers located and seized 15 long-barrelled firearms (including one semi-automatic model), two handguns (one of which were loaded), ammunition, prohibited magazines, ten knives and two cans of bear spray.

They also located and seized approximately 31 grams of methamphetamine, 85 grams of cocaine, 672 grams of cannabis, a sum of cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Two individuals have been arrested in relation to the June 2022 assault and the items seized by police during the search warrant.

36-year-old Jonas Hardlotte and 33-year-old Roseanne Halkett, both from Stanley Mission, are each charged with:

  • one count, attempted murder, Section 239(1)(b), Criminal Code;
  • one count, robbery, Section 344(1)(b), Criminal Code;
  • one count, aggravated sexual assault, Section 273(2)(b), Criminal Code;
  • one count, unlawful confinement, Section 279(2), Criminal Code;
  • one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, choking to render another person incapable of resistance, Section 246(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine), Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • one count, possession of the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • one count, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, unlicensed possession of a firearm, Section 91(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a prohibited weapon, Section 91(2), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, Section 95(1), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, possession of a prohibited device, Section 91(2), Criminal Code.

Hardlotte and Halkett are scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on March 16, 2023.
