As a result of continued investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes, an adult male was arrested in Lloydminster on May 17 in relation to the death of Gregory Cope.

34-year-old Travis Jean is charged with one count, first degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code and one count, arson – disregard for human life, Section 433(a), Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 19, 2023

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating homicide in Battleford

On February 27, 2023, human remains were located inside a house destroyed by fire on February 18, 2023 on 27th Street West in Battleford.

Initial investigation has indicated that the individual died as a result of a homicide and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is investigating, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP's Forensic Identification Services and fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.

With the assistance of the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, the victim has been identified as 32-year-old Gregory Cope, who was reported as missing to Battlefords RCMP on February 21, 2023 and was the subject of a previous media release.
