Thompson RCMP arrest driver in stolen vehicle

News release

On January 24, 2023, at approximately 10:55 pm, a RCMP officer on patrol was flagged down by a cab driver and advised that one of their taxis was stolen from a business on Thompson Drive South, in Thompson.

Officers on patrol located the stolen taxi on Thompson Drive and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle refused to stop, and fled. A short time later an officer located the stolen vehicle on Red River Drive. The stolen vehicle struck the police vehicle twice before fleeing. No officers were physically injured.

Officers located the vehicle abandoned on Stanford Bay, and the driver was located in a nearby residence and arrested.

The driver was impaired by alcohol and was taken to the detachment where she provided two samples of her breath which were more than double the legal limit.

A 24-year-old female from Bunibonibee Cree Nation is facing charges of :

Assault on Peace Officer with a Weapon
Theft of Vehicle
Flight from Police
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Mischief

Thompson RCMP continue to investigate.
