News release

Digby RCMP has charged a man with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death following a collision that occurred in December 2022.

On December 22, at approximately 8:55 a.m., Digby RCMP, fire and EHS responded to a report of a collision on Hwy. 217 in Roxville. RCMP officers learned that a pickup truck and a panel van were travelling in opposite directions when they collided.

The driver and sole occupant of the panel van, a 57-year-old Bayview man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck, a 35-year-old Roxville man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Investigators, with assistance from the RCMP Forensic Laboratory, determined the 35-year-old man's blood alcohol content was above the legal limit at the time of the collision.

On March 16, Tyler Christian Sachs was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death and Operation While Prohibited.

Sachs appeared in Digby Provincial Court yesterday and was released on conditions. He's scheduled to reappear on March 21, at 9:30 a.m., to face the charges.

Our thoughts remain with the victim's family.
