On March 20, 2023, RCMP Major Crime Services arrested and charged Cherisse Mckay, 28, with Manslaughter in relation to the January 7, 2019, homicide of a 28-year-old male in Birdtail Sioux First Nation.

Cherisse Mckay, from Birdtail Sioux First Nation, was remanded into custody.

Manitoba First Nations Police Service, along with RCMP Major Crime Services, continue to investigate.


RCMP Major Crime Services & MFNPS investigating homicide

On Monday, January 7, 2019, at approximately 6:00 pm, Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to a 911 call to a local residence in Birdtail Sioux First Nation reporting an adult male in cardiac arrest.

Upon arrival on scene, officers discovered a 28-year-old male, from Birdtail Sioux First Nation, deceased from an apparent stab wound.

Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers, along with RCMP Major Crime Services, continued with the investigation and have located and interviewed persons of interest who were with the victim during the course of the day prior to the 911 call being placed.

At this time, charges in relation to the incident have not been laid.
