Update - Virden RCMP searching for armed and dangerous suspect

Seril Mazawasicuna has been arrested. The RCMP thanks the public and media for their assistance.


On March 2, 2023, Virden RCMP arrested two adult females in relation to this assault.

Tanya Hunter, 34, and Whitney Mazawasicuna, 37, both from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, were remanded into custody on charges of Assault, Resisting Arrest and Obstruction.

RCMP continue to search for Seril MAZAWASICUNA, 32, and are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Virden RCMP at 204-748-2135, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.


At approximately 9:15pm, on February 24, 2023, Virden RCMP received a report of an injured person, being held against their will by a male, on Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation.

The investigation led officers to a residence on Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation, where the victim was located but the male suspect fled prior to police arrival.

A Warrant of Arrest for Seril Mazawasicuna, 32, from Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation, has been issued in relation to this incident. He is described as 6'1", 200 lb, with black hair and brown eyes.

He is currently facing 16 charges, including:
- Assault with a weapon
- Forcible confinement
- Pointing a firearm
- Assault Causing bodily harm

Seril Mazawasicuna is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached. He is believed to be possession of firearms and is actively evading police. Anyone with information about the location of Seril Mazawasicuna is asked to immediately call 911, the Virden RCMP at 204-748-2135 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
