On Jan. 13, 2023, High Prairie RCMP attended a residence on Whitefish First Nation, Alta., after a report was received that a suspect attempted to shoot the victim. After the gun jammed, the victim was assaulted with the firearm. As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old individual, a resident of Whitefish First Nation, was charged with the following:
- Assault with a weapon
- Weapons offences (x3)
- Mischief
- Possession of a weapon contrary to order.
On Jan. 20, 2023, officers of the Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit attended Cadotte Lake to support Peace River and High Prairie RCMP in locating a 35-year-old individual. After a two-day investigation, officers were successful in arresting the 35-year-old individual.
The 35-year-old individual has been taken before a justice of the peace and has been remanded in custody with a court date set for Feb. 6, 2023, at Peace River provincial court.
