RCMP seeking public’s help following arson

The St. George RCMP is seeking the public's help to identify a person of interest following an arson at a wharf in Back Bay, N.B.

On April 18, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., members of the St. George RCMP Detachment and the Back Bay Fire Department responded to a report of a fishing vessel and truck on fire at a wharf in the community. Through the investigation, it was determined that the fire had been intentionally set by one individual, who arrived and left the scene on foot before police arrived. Another boat and a structure were also damaged in the fire.

Police are releasing a surveillance footage photograph in hopes that someone may recognize the individual. The individual is described as a man wearing rubber boots, jeans, black hooded jacket and gloves.

Anyone who recognizes the individual in the photo, or who has information that could help further the investigation, is asked to contact the St. George RCMP at 506-755-1130. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.

The RCMP Identification Services, as well as the New Brunswick Fire Marshal's office are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
