Thompson RCMP traffic stop leads to seizure of a loaded handgun, drugs and large sum of cash

On May 17, 2024, at approximately 3:00 pm, RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Thompson Drive South, in Thompson.

The investigation led officers to conduct a search of the vehicle and the two occupants. Officers seized a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, which was in the passenger's waistband, 113 grams of cocaine, approximately $10,000.00 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, a 69-year-old male from Thompson is facing a charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was released from custody with an upcoming court date.

The passenger, 27-year-old Abdi Sheybow of Windsor, Ontario, has been charged with over 10 drug and firearm offences including Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime.

He was remanded into custody.

Thompson RCMP continue to investigate.
