Maternal Empowerment Partnership (F Division, Saskatchewan)

Goal:

To provide information and guidance on living healthy lifestyles.

Activities supported:

F Division Central District partnered with F Division Indigenous Police Services (IPS) and Saskatoon Tribal Council to host a Maternal Empowerment Cultural Camp from August 16 to 18, 2019, on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation.

A number of mothers from the central part of the province were invited to attend a weekend of self-care, which included workshops and presentations given by Indigenous women on topics including household budgets to Medicine Wheel teachings.

Organization mission:

Not one Left Behind. Community circuit in Saskatchewan that promotes health and wellness in Creighton SK, Pelican Narrows SK, Sandy Bay SK, Deschambault Lake SK, La Ronge SK, La Loche SK, Ile-a-la Crosse SK, Fond du Lac SK, Stony Rapids/Black Lake SK.

Activities supported:

Programming and outreach services for 9 northern communities:

  • Yoga therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Equine therapy
  • Sound therapy

Men of the North (La Ronge, Saskatchewan)

Organization mission:

To shed light on the issues that men are facing in their social, emotional, spiritual, and mental environments. The traditional belief is that no man should ever show any sign of mental health concern.

Activities supported:

Programming and outreach services including:

  • Annual walk for sobriety in support of National Addictions Awareness Week
  • Traditional four-day ceremony at the urban reserve in La Ronge
  • Youth Spooky Halloween decorations contest
  • Meetings with inmates at Besnard Lake Correctional Camp offering more mental health support as many returned to their communities
  • Raising of the Grandfather Lodge ceremony
