Commissioner’s National Indigenous Advisory Committee

We established the Commissioner's National Indigenous Advisory Committee in 1990 to help communicate with and learn from our Indigenous partners. It also helps us to:

  • collaborate with Indigenous Peoples and communities
  • provide the highest-quality policing for Indigenous communities
  • gather advice and cultural perspectives on matters related to Indigenous policing

Members meet directly with the Commissioner and senior executives twice a year. To help with our priority of creating safer and healthier Indigenous communities, they provide:

  • perspectives on Indigenous Peoples' interactions with police
  • suggestions and recommendations
  • an exchange of knowledge
  • guidance

The committee has diverse representation from each province and territory. Each member takes part on the committee for a period of four years.
