The Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) made an arrest following an investigation by Beaumont RCMP and a tip from the public. The arrest led to a search warrant, and ultimately four people are charged with a variety of offences.
March 28, 2018, Wetaskiwin RCMP CRU and Wetaskiwin General Investigation Section were advised by Beaumont RCMP that they were investigating a targeted robbery where property was stolen. The property owner from Beaumont located his laptop being sold online and reported this to the RCMP.
On March 29, Wetaskiwin RCMP members were able to intercept the individual attempting to sell the item in Wetaskiwin.
A 33 -year-old male, of Wetaskiwin, and a 36-year-old female were arrested without incident.
As a result of this arrest, a search warrant was executed on a Wetaskiwin residence, yielding stolen property from Beaumont including a sawed off firearm, a hand held stun gun, drugs and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
The 33-year-old male has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of prohibited firearm
- Numerous other firearm offences
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of an illegal substance (methamphetamine)
- Possession of stolen property under $5000
- Trafficking of stolen property
- Breach of recognizance (x2)
- Possession of a firearm contrary to court order
He has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Court on April 24, 2018.
The 36-year-old female has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of prohibited firearm
- Numerous other firearm offences
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of an illegal substance (methamphetamine)
- Possession of stolen property under $5000
She appeared in Wetaskiwin court on April 3. She was released on her own recognizance.
Two other individuals were arrested. Their charges have not been sworn before the courts.
A 19-year-old male from Wetaskiwin was charged with Breach of probation (x2).
An 18-year-old male from Wetaskiwin was charged with Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Unauthorized possession of a firearm/ prohibited weapon and Possession of marijuana.
Both are scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Court on April 19, 2018.
Wetaskiwin RCMP, Wetaskiwin CRU, Beaumont RCMP and Edmonton General Investigation Section worked collaboratively to solve this investigation. The information provided by the public assisted the RCMP in locating and arresting the involved parties and the RCMP are very appreciative of that partnership.
The Wetaskiwin CRU was able to utilize intelligence gathered to target offenders and disrupt criminal activity within the Wetaskiwin community.
