32-year-old man to serve nine years in prison for child pornography offences and sexual interference

A 32-year-old man from Riverview, N.B., will serve nine years in prison after pleading guilty to 31 child pornography offences and one count of sexual interference.

Shawn Curtis Nickerson appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on April 9, 2021, and was sentenced to four years for making child pornography, three years to be served consecutively for making available child pornography and three years for possession of child pornography to be served concurrently. The charges stem from incidents that occurred between 2016 and 2020, investigated by the New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.

He was also sentenced to two years, to be served consecutively, for sexual interference involving a minor during 2018 and 2019. The Codiac Regional RCMP conducted the investigation.

Shawn Curtis Nickerson has been added to the National Sex Offender Registry for life, and will be required to submit a DNA sample. Following his release from prison, he will have to abide by strict conditions set out by the court, including not to be around children or having contact with any of the victims.

The investigation involved the New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, which includes members from the Saint John Police Force and the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force, as well as the RCMP's Digital Forensic Services Unit, the Codiac Regional RCMP and the RCMP National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
