The Perth-Andover RCMP is investigating a report of property damage that caused a suspension bridge to collapse at the Sisson Generating Station in Nictau, N.B.

The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between January 21 and 24, 2021, and was reported to police on January 27. Entry was gained to the property and significant damage done to a suspension bridge causing it to collapse. Several bridge components were stolen including the main support cables. The destruction of the bridge has prevented NB power employees from accessing part of the generating station.

"This is the second incident of mischief in the area over the last week," says Sgt. Flewelling with the West District RCMP. "On January 26, police received several reports of damaged travel trailers at the Acadian Timber Campground, near the Sisson Generating Station. At this time, we believe the incidents are connected."

Anyone with information, or who may have seen any activity near the campground or the Sisson Generating Station area between January 21 and 27, 2021, is asked to contact the Perth-Andover RCMP at 506-273-5000. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.crimenb.ca.

The investigation is ongoing.
